Game Day Recycling Challenge
The Game Day Recycling Challenge is a nationwide competition that empowers colleges and universities to reduce the most amount of waste generated at home football games through various waste reduction efforts such as food recovery, recycling and the use of reusable products. To participate in the competition, schools choose one home football game to track and report their waste diversion data in hopes of winning the coveted title.
This year, LSU Campus Sustainability has selected the Texas A&M game on October 25, 2025 for the competition and will be reporting on the most amount of recyclables collected per capita. Through our partnership with the Osprey Initiative, we will collect recyclables from inside the stadium on Sunday morning following the game. Extra recycling bins will be staged in designated tailgates to help capture more bottles and cans pre and post game.
We are rallying all students and student organizations to join us by helping to deploy extra recycling bins at tailgates, collecting recyclables on Sunday morning from both inside the stadium and at various tailgates, and sorting all recyclables collected so numbers can be reported for the competition. LSU has proudly won the challenge in 2015, 2016 and 2019 and with your help, we can bring home the title once again!
If you or your student organization is looking to volunteer and/or earn extra cash, please sign up by filling out the volunteer form. Stipends are available for students who volunteer for specific Sunday morning shifts. For details, please review the sign up form.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful - Love the Boot
LSU is a Keep Louisiana Beautiful University affiliate and conducts litter cleanups each year in April during the annual Love the Boot week. We recruit student volunteers to work both on campus and within the Baton Rouge Community to clean and beautify Louisiana.
Spring Greening Day
Spring Greening Day is an annual half-day service project to beautify and green the LSU campus. The inclusion and creation of more green spaces on campus produce positive impacts for our campus ecosystem and student health.
We have transformed spaces by planting greenery in areas such as in front of Memorial Tower, the Greek Amphitheater, and the Student Union. This event is made possible through our partnerships with Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Auxiliary Services and RCI.
